When the sun sets over Accra, travellers are greeted with a nightlife in Ghana’s capital that is as varied and as entertaining as any other major city in the world.
The daily distractions in the form of aggressive vendors and haggling retreat into the night and the visitor can finally relax at their favorite chop bar or tourist hangout where their greatest concern is the affable locals who are sometimes a little too eager to make a new foreign friend.
From live entertainment to casual, quieter affairs, it can all be found within Accra on any given night of the week.
Although weekends prove to be the biggest nights for parties, with clubs like Aphrodisiac and Tantra pulling in crowds of Ghanaians and tourists, there are many spots from Sunday to Wednesday that satisfy similar preferences.
With cool breezes from the Gulf of Guinea blowing far enough inland to provide a slight chill on rooftop spots like Epos Night Club, outdoor entertainment is quite a popular option for locals and tourists alike.
Just off of Oxford Street in Osu, Epos is the perfect one stop sort of shop with its two floors catering to the sports fanatic as well as those with their dancing shoes on.
The large, flat screen television at the rooftop bar is usually tuned to the latest football match while the night club one floor below claims to be open 24 hours for those who need a little taste of Chris Brown, Usher or whichever hip hop artist is burning up the airwaves in the United States.
For a taste of the ocean’s salty air without having to deal with the sand in one’s toes there’s an impressive collection of outdoor bars that line the coast, offering spectacular views and invitingly laid back atmospheres.
Next Door is one such spot that’s mostly patronised by locals looking for a quiet night
