THE ACCRA East branch of the Rotary International Club last Saturday treated its members to a fund-raising dinner dance at the La Palm Beach Hotel in Accra.
The programme which formed part of the club’s usual activities to support development in various communities was used to also reward members who had contributed to the growth of the club.
In attendance were representatives of the club’s other branches as well as sponsors of the event and members of the inky fraternity.
President of the Accra East Rotary Club, Mr. Yaw Assah Sam hinted of the club’s plans to embark on projects that would positively affect the lives of children in particular.
This year, he indicated, “we have identified several projects which we are raising funds for. The project will not only make dreams real for the people in the communities, but will add meaning to their lives for generations to come.”
According to him projects to undertake included upgrading facilities at the Teenage Mothers Centre in Abiriw-Akwapim, assisting the Street Children’s Academy in Accra, and providing water storage facilities for the School of the Blind among others. He consequently challenged members to dig deep into their hearts and give in cash or kind to support the projects.
The enthralling night, which was proudly sponsored by Somotex, Fidelity Bank, Deloitte, Lufthansa, Coca Cola, Nestle, Voltic Ghana Ltd, Unilever and others, also attracted out-of-the-ordinary music renditions from Slim Busterr and the Megastar Band. In a short interview with Beatwaves Pallav Rastogi, Senior Manager of Somotex Ghana Limited said his outfit supported the occasion because it shares in the objectives of the club to raise the standards of living of people in society in general.
“We are not only concerned about making enough earns out there, but we also look at improving the lives of those who buy our products. So we think it’s a just cause to sponsor this event,” he remarked.
