The first annual inter-tertiary beauty pageant has been launched in Accra with its main focus on schools within the Greater Accra Region. The show has been launched at a time when must tertiary institutions seem to be in a very entertainment mode with mostly hall week celebration.
According to Peter Mensah Director of Spear Media, the pageant will seek to promote healthy beauty competition among the various tertiary institutions. “It is a very unique event and the girls are ready”. He added. The competition which is expected to go nationwide after the first edition has 9 tertiary institutions within the Greater Accra Region alone. 12 contestants are vying for the most coveted crown of “Spur of the Moment Winner 2007”.
Speaking to Weekly Fylla, Winfred Afful, coordinator of the event at the launch revealed that the winner will be taking home some fantastic prizes at stake. The various tertiary institutions are University of Ghana with 3 contestants, Institute of Professional Studies with 2 contestants, Africa Institute of Journalism and Communication, Ghana Institute of Journalism, University of MAMSA, Tran Africa College, Accra Poly, Zenith College and Wisconsin International University College with 1 contestant each.
He also revealed that there will be consolation prizes for the pageant such as Miss Personality, Miss Eloquence, and Miss Intelligent. The launching of the event was done by Ms. Josephine Ashia former SCR President of University of Ghana. In her speech, she said “this event is meant to bring out the best in the various contestants with the hope to spread soon and an increment in the number of contestants come the next edition” will she added.
Ghana’s latest hip hop-R&B artiste Kyikin Chaucer was there to perform for the night. Some of the guests at the launch were of the view that the event is good and hope to continue. The event is proudly sponsored by Angelica Hotel –East Legon, Ceejay Multimedia, Zimiro, First Choice Hair & Nail, Ultimate phones, Roam Art, Causy Brown and A Plus, among others. Organizers are well set to roll the carpet on the 16th of November, 2007 at the house music, Ghana’s National Theatre.
