STAR ACTRESS Jackie Appiah has said her recent role in the latest movie, “Pretty Queen”, by A.A. Production is her greatest challenge so far in her acting career.
Speaking in a short interview with Beatwaves after the movie’s premiere at the National Theater in Accra last Saturday, the mother of one and the toast of most standard Ghanaian movies described her role as unusual.
“This is different and something challenging from what I usually play. I am glad I took up this script. As you can see, I am usually a quiet person in most of my previous movies but this time I am given the chance to do something else,” says Jackie.
In pretty queen, a unique story of rich African culture, she played the role of a rather hardcore, arrogant, audacious and insolent woman named Empress. She is a chosen bride of Prince Nabiya (Majid Micheal) who just returned from London to inherit his father’s kingdom.
At a feast for Nabiya to meet Empress for the first time, he got entangled with a different lady called Vanessa, a twin, against his daddy’s wish.
Owing to his feeling for Vanessa, Nabiya later set out to look for her. However he mistook Vanessa’s identical sister for her. This set the stage for a dire devil battle between Empress and her vicious mother (Rama Brew) pushing beyond limits and desperate for a taste of royalty.
They embark on a rather dangerous sojourn, which spins a web of intrigue, conflict, passion and tragedy.
According to Jackie, “as an actress, I must be able to interpret any character that comes my way and that precisely is what I did by taking up the challenge.”
The must-see movie is not only thrilling, it is a true quality piece of work put together by A.A Production. It brags of a very relevant story-line and very good acting output, not to mention the impressive picture quality and lighting.
The setting is an accurate signal that Ghanaian movies have improved. It also stars great movie icons as Ekow Smith Asante, Solomon Sampa, Doris Sackitey, Kofi Bucknor and other seasoned stars.
The red carpet premiering ceremony was successful and heavily attended. However it did not come off without its odds; the sound quality was nothing to write home about; the audience had to struggle to hear the characters; some of the main characters also did not show up just as some of the casts were barred from using the red carpet with the excuse that they did not comprise the main characters.
However the movie is one of the best Ghana has produced so far.
