For those who still remember that impressive night when Laurie Naa
Lamile Lawson was crowned Miss Malaika Ghana 2007, her passionate quest
to spearhead the eradication of Malaria in Ghana will always be worth
mentioning.

True to her words and only eight (8) months into her reign, the 21-year old Medical Student is reported to have embarked on countless projects – all geared towards the same cause (Malaria Prevention).

Latest among these projects was her 3-day Malaria Campaign in five communities in the Dangbe East District of the Greater Accra Region, where she, together with the National Malaria Control Board sensitized the inhabitants about the causes, prevention and treatment for Malaria.

In the district, where she visited Adokope, Elavanyo, Kadzanya, Mantse Kope and Wekumangbe, Laurie and her team demonstrated the causes, prevention and clinical treatment for Malaria through short sketches.

Perhaps to enable the people in each of the communities feel the impact of her campaign, Laurie went the extra mile to take part in all the drama sketches. She also personally re-treated all used mosquito nets. Laurie and the team gave out free pre-treated nets to families that did not have any.

In an interview after the trip, the beauty queen admitted that working with the National Malaria Control Board had indeed been worth it; “we thoroughly enjoyed working together on this project.

The education through drama had a massive impact on the people. In the next few days we will be visiting the Dangbe West District to carry out the same exercise”.
