Information reaching Beatwaves at press time yesterday indicated that the winner of last year’s Exquisite Face of the Universe, Ghana, Alberta Nana Adwoa Arhin has dragged the organisers of the pageant, 1st Royal Events, to an Accra High Court, restraining them from organising the World Exquisite Face of the Universe scheduled for the National Theatre in Accra tonight.

But in a quick reaction yesterday, Mrs. Adwoa Sarpongmah, vice president of 1st Royal Events told Beatwaves that her outfit had not received any injunction restraining them from going on with the event, adding that her outfit was waiting for the said injunction and would not like to comment on the issue since it was a court case.

However a press release issued by Nana Adwoa Arhin insisted that the organisers had been notified of the injunction.

The beauty queen, who is an international model and once a Nokia Face of Africa winner, revealed that after she won the Ghana edition of the Exquisite Face of the Universe in December last year, she did not receive her prizes and no explanation whatsoever was given her.

When she approached the organisers on the issue, she was told that the sponsors had not fulfilled their obligations, but upon further inquiries she realised that was not true.

“As a result of asking for my prizes, I have been maltreated and verbally abused: The organisers of 1st Royal Events Ltd. told me that they would strip me of my title and that they control the competition and decide who wins.

They even said to me; ‘who do you think you are to confront us about your prizes?’” “With the support of my family, I have decided to take the matter seriously as I would not want this to happen to any other Ghanaians who aspire to represent their country.

I have sought legal advice and as a result of this, a court action has been brought to ensure that my remaining prizes and everything owed me are given. When the organisers received the court documents they contacted me and insisted that I drop the court case otherwise I would not be allowed to take part in the contest and represent Ghana at tonight’s event,” she added. Truly, she said she has been replaced with Naa Yaa Adadewa.
