Ace radio presenter in Kumasi, William Des Bordes a.k.a. Lovin Cee, last week had a brush with the law as he was remanded into prison custody by the Ashanti New Town Circuit Court for contempt.
Des Bordes was in court to answer a substantive charge of defrauding by false pretences. He was said to have engaged a hotel manager in a row over unpaid hotel bills running over GH¢6000. The matter was reported to the police and subsequently sent to court.
The popular presenter on Kumasi’s Angel FM made his first appearance in court last week Wednesday, but even before his case was heard, his behaviour in court led the trial judge to remand him into prison custody to re-appear in a week’s time.
It was learnt by Showbiz that when the case was called in court, Des Bordes was outside the courtroom, sitting in his car and receiving a phone call. The judge was compelled to move on to hear two other cases before calling William’s case again.
This time, he was said to have majestically walked into the court room, and when he entered, he was chewing gum. His plea was not taken and a week’s remand in prison custody was slammed on him.
Des Bordes recently returned from Germany where he worked with Deutshe Welle (DW) Radio. He has since been signed on to work with Angel FM in Kumasi.
Showbiz gathered that Des Bordes had been lodging at the hotel since he returned from Germany and had ran up quite a bill.
Hitherto, Des Bordes had been excelling on the radio scene on the global level as far as his six-year stint with Deutsche Welle was concerned until his contract with DW expired and was asked to come back home and remain as a correspondent for the radio station in Ghana.
He was the host of the 30-minute daily current affairs programme Newslink Africa during his stay with DW Radio. Sports coverage in Africa was also part of his duty depending on the importance of the event and he worked with radio greats such as Tony Durnham, Rick Demarest, Brian Pickering, Diet Simon, Meggin Leigh Doody and Ian Johnson among others in Deutsche Welle which really enriched his presentation.
During his radio days in Kumasi before moving to DW, Des Bordes was the first person to interview President Kufuor on phone in the year 2000 after he won the presidential election on Kapital Radio’s morning show called Daybreak.
He is well noted for his dexterity in music selection on radio and was voted the Best Radio Personality of the Year 2001/2002. He is currently the host of the Drive programme on Angel FM.
At the time of going to press, Showbiz learnt that Des Bordes was no longer in prison custody.
